National Pollinator Week June 25, 2007 --Cinco Puntos Press To raise awareness about pollinators and the important role they play, this week has been made National Pollinator Week (June 24-30). Honeybees are disappearing in the U.S.—but what about the bigger picture? Across the country honey bees are disappearing from their colonies, putting commercial beekeepers and our food supply at risk. These empty hives are a sign of what has been called “Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD).” The threat likely comes from a biological cause (a virus, mites), or possibly environmental stress from pesticides. No one is quite sure. But recent news reports have left many questions unanswered and fear spreading about potential damage to this essential mechanism of our ecology. In honor of the most famous pollinators, honey bees, we have made The Bee Tree on sale!
