Old friends Pipina Salas-Porras and Jose Cisneros have teamed up to bring to life El Ratoncito Pequeño / The Little Mouse, a marvelous nursery rhyme that they both learned when they were very small. This dual language version of The Little Mouse will help young children find out for certain why a little mouse should never fall for a hungry cat's tricks. It will also provide a great introduction to the magic and rhythms of a second language for children ages 2 to 5.

Parents who want to raise their children bilingually have found that the best time to introduce a second language is when a child is very young. For years, booksellers, librarians, teachers and parents have been telling us that they keep looking for dual language books for pre-school children, but they can't find them. El Ratoncito Pequeño / The Little Mouse will fill that need.

From the Author
When I was very young, my mother taught me to recite poems, sing songs, and read stories in both English and Spanish. I have never forgotten these wonderful experiences with language.
One of my favorite poems was El Ratoncito Pequeño. When I went to my friend José Cisneros and asked him to do the drawings, I was elated to learn that he had also learned El Ratoncito as a child and could still recite it from memory. Many of my friends know the poem as well, but no one yet has been able to tell me where it originated. Perhaps you know?
Encourage your child to memorize El Ratoncito Pequeño /The Little Mouse in Spanish and English. You will be surprised at how quickly your child can learn this poem. Maybe—like it was for me—the poem will a part of their memories for the rest of their lives!
Publishers Weekly
This is a rhyme that children have recited frequently in some Latin American countries, and as such the book provides a valuable source of that oral tradition.
