Maximilian and the Bingo Rematch

With "Maximilian and The Bingo Rematch: A Lucha Libre Sequel," Xavier Garza has created a book that will appeal to young Hispanic readers. The book is written in both English and Spanish (English on one page and Spanish on the facing page, except where there are black and white illustrations. at which points the two languages are on the same page).
Many kids love reading about wrestling, and English-speaking or Spanish-speaking, they will enjoy this story. Because the protagonist is Hispanic, the story provides a protagonist whose culture is different from that of most middle grade and young adult books.
Maximilian talks about his tio Rodolfo. His aunts (tia Socorro and tia Dolores) play loteria. Reading the story is, in a way, like visiting a foreign country and learning the games and the expressions.
This book is a must for dual language and bilingual classrooms or any classroom where diversity is discussed and respected.
